NEW CROSSOVER BY PEUGEOT
• A new concept the Peugeot Crossover 3008 – half MPV, half SUV
• Launches a number of innovative technologies
• New Zealand gains extensive new model line up
First seen as a concept at last years Paris Motorshow Peugeot’s new Crossover 3008 vehicle can now be revealed and is expected to launch in Europe this winter and arrive in New Zealand by late 2009.
This new, compact and spacious cross-over concept, represents a totally new offering in the car market. It is aimed at sport-loving couples, modern families, senior citizens and active young people who desire a type of car which does not fall into existing categories, such as hatchbacks and MPVs.
"To be seen as a truly innovative brand, we need to import and have models that lead and recreate market segments, rather than just compete in the existing ones" says Simon Rose, acting Divisional Manager of Sime Darby Automobiles.
The new 3008 will be one of those vehicles in the future that covers a variety of customers needs. “Offering MPV family flexibility, load height and the road presence of an SUV with 1.6 and 2.0 litre diesel engines, coupled with six speed transmissions that will ensure economical, affordable and clean motoring” states Mr Rose.
The 3008 launches new innovative road holding technologies for the Peugeot brand including Dynamic Roll and Grip Controls, plus hi-tech driver aids such as a projected “head up” display.
Dynamic Roll Control introduces a internal module linking left and right shock absorbers increasing the damping effect in order to corner as “flat” as possible, reducing vehicle body movement and therefore active safety.
Grip Control provides intelligent off-road traction by combining an upgraded traction control system with new Michelin Mud and Snow tyres. Five selectable control modes work to provide the desired grip control via the ECU of the electronic stability programme.
“Our product promise is to focus on only importing vehicles with the highest possible standards for safety and emission levels. At this time we are the leading (lowest) New Zealand importer for our model range C02 levels, which is a position we intend on keeping and are very proud of,” said Rose.
“The New 3008 will further compliment that promise and the existing model range. It is due for sales release in NZ in early 2010, prior to that, this year we will also launch a light wheel base commercial van – called the Peugeot Partner, a new 207 XT Auto, the gorgeous New 308 CC as well as the 2009 407 range. All of which promise future sales growth and an opportunity to attract new buyers and achieve growth from segments Peugeot has not been able to compete in before,” Simon Rose continued.
The Peugeot Group in France recorded a staggering 31.6% local market share in 2008. An increase of 1.9% on the back of innovative and environmentally aware products in the face of a challenging downward market. In 2008 Peugeot sold just over 1000 new vehicle units in the New Zealand market.
Pricing on the 3008 Crossover model will be competitive in the New Zealand market and will be announced closer to launch date. It will open up new motoring horizons and offers an original solution and versatility to customers in search of modernity, practicality and driving pleasure.
